My painting, Flourish, heads off to Huntington Beach.  I love the blue on this one!

Thanks Peter and Claudia for giving this one a good home.

Venetian Dragon - New Painting July 07 2012, 0 Comments

Dreams of Venice - or - Venetian Dragon, either way I name it, the colors of this painting remind me of the gilded art, architecture, fashion and language of all things Venice.

Was a fun stretch for me, using gold and Golden's interference colors to create this dragonfly in simple composition.

Just added to my site portfolio - wings series:

Poppies In Progress - Painting June 27 2012, 0 Comments

"I don't do poppies."  I said to them, these new fans of my work.  Once said, that statement began to fester and refused to go away - so, I begin - a new painting and a new subject, flowers... poppies.

Just to do it and get it out there, to try something new to me - done everywhere, but never before in my studio.

So, here goes, I'll show you a few snaps and bring you on the journey:

Poppies in progress

Launched with a little word rhythm too.. why not?

Poppies

Scarlet poppy red, orange

Bobbing head thrust in view,

In full sun they wave and bend

As if each flower and petal new.

No care, no stress, simply beauty bright

Rising out of whiskered pods

When glint of sun is gone, and night

Each, barely held high on bending rods.

Why then is the artist pulled to paint

To encase the vibrant life within

Repeat the beauty, each his own

Splash it here, and there, jump in.

Roll and play, and then again

As if in fields alone that day

Wandering, touching, reeling in

Inviting life, all else at bay.

Friends - Collectors - Lessons From Mary Oliver June 17 2012, 0 Comments

Delight,

I made a new friend, Heidi.  That's what collector's become.  Friends.

We share a love of beauty through art - its like a lasting conversation we continue to have together - once they take it home and put my art in a special place.  Heidi, my friend, is a special collector who gave me a gift when she selected my painting, Delight, from my water series. Her glee when she received my painting would have been enough of a thanks,

It arrived!!!!  It is soooooo beautiful.  It made my day.  It's so vibrant and alive....I love it. Thank you. Thank you.  It arrived in perfect condition.  And the notecards are exquisite.  Can't wait to share them.
- Much love and gratitude, Heidi
She went above and beyond to share her wisdom with me, a gift, and turned my attention toward Mary Oliver, a poet of poets.  My wildly passionate, adventurous feasting art-spirit often needs a bit of grounding, a moment to focus.
Started with a post of her poem...."My work is loving the world.
Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird... "

Then, well... got a reply from the publisher, Beacon Press, to my request to post it -  they don't want Mary's poem posted in the world wide web.  Bummer. So, I encourage you to go find her work elsewhere and devour it.

Thank you Heidi.

Thank You Mary.
